Farmer ends life, blames daughter-in-law
Rajkot: A 55-year-old man in the city died by suicide at his home, allegedly fearing that his daughter-in-law and her family members would usurp his farmland.
The deceased, Jayanti Karena, a farmer, consumed poison at his house in Om Nagar Ratnam Society on Monday. He succumbed in the civil hospital on Tuesday.
Police seized a suicide note purportedly written by Karena, in which he held his daughter-in-law and her three family members responsible for driving him to take the extreme step.

Karena claimed that the family was conspiring to usurp his land as his daughter-in-law's brother lost Rs 84 lakh in gambling.
Karena wrote that her family members were preventing her from returning to his house so that she could pressurise him to transfer the land ownership in her name.
Taluka Police Station Inspector DM Haripara said, "We have filed a case of accidental death and initiated investigations. Based on a complaint by the deceased's family, a formal FIR will be lodged and the accused will be arrested."
