MUMBAI: Seven Members of the Legislative Council (MLCs) appointed by the Governor will be sworn in on Tuesday at noon at Vidhan Bhavan. Deputy chairperson of the Maharashtra Legislative Council Neelam Gorhe will administer the oath.
This swearing-in comes while a case regarding the vacant posts of 12 MLCs, appointed by the Governor, is still pending in the High Court.
The High Court has concluded its hearings on the petition filed by Shiv Sena UBT Kolhapur chief Sunil Modi and has reserved its order.
The government has recommended seven names for the MLC posts, and the ceremony is scheduled for today.
In related developments, the Maharashtra BJP core group met on Monday to discuss issues including seat sharing for the upcoming assembly polls. The meeting, which lasted about three hours, took place at the BJP headquarters and was chaired by National President Jagat Prakash Nadda.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, State President Chandrashekhar Bawankule, along with other key leaders from both the state and central leaderships, participated in the discussions. The 288-seat Maharashtra Assembly is set to go to polls later this year. The Election Commission of India is expected to announce the election dates on Tuesday.
Upcoming elections will see a contest between the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition, consisting of Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), and Congress, and the Maha Yuti Alliance, including BJP, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction), and NCP (Ajit Pawar faction).
