KGMU docs stage protest over RG Kar case
Lucknow: Resident doctors at King George's Medical University (KGMU) staged a protest on Monday against the Aug 9 rape and murder of a female doctor at RG Kar hospital in Kolkata.
The protest disrupted operations in the outpatient department (OPD) as doctors gathered around noon to demand justice, chanting slogans. The demonstration caused chaos within the OPD for half an hour.
Members of the KGMU Resident Doctors Association expressed concerns that the govt was not prioritising their safety or seeking justice for the victim.

"We will ensure justice for our fallen colleague and her family, regardless of the cost," they said. Following the rally, they staged a sit-in near the Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj gate.
To minimise patient disruption, senior doctors stepped in to manage treatment in the OPD.
By evening, they attended to all patients, and the protest did not affect surgeries or diagnostic procedures.
KGMU spokesperson Prof KK Singh said senior doctors ensured all patients received necessary care and emergency services were not impacted.
