Diamond worker raped 14-year-old during Navratri
Surat: A 22-year-old diamond worker, Rohit Pendakar, has been arrested for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl in the jurisdiction of Vijalpore police station in Navsari district on the sixth night of Navratri.
According to the FIR, the minor developed a relationship with the man over social media. At about 11.30pm on Oct 9, Pendakar met the girl near her house at about 11.30pm and got her to get on to his scooter saying they would go for a ride.
He stopped the scooter at a secluded spot, near Ambawadi in Vijalpore, and demanded sex.
When the victim refused, he allegedly raped her. An hour later, he dropped the victim off near her society at about 12.30am and threatened her not to speak to anybody about what had happened.
Navsari deputy superintendent of police (DySP) S K Rai told TOI: "After the incident, the girl looked disturbed for a couple of days. When her mother noticed this, she asked her if there was any issue. The victim then revealed what had happened to her mother and told her she had pain in her abdomen, on Oct 14. A complaint was then filed, and the probe was handed over to police inspector V G Bharwad. The accused was apprehended and is on one-day police remand."
Police filed a case for rape, abduction and criminal intimidation under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and for offences under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
