Assam bypolls: BJP to contest 3 out of 5 seats
Guwahati: BJP in Assam has pulled up its socks for the bypolls to be held for the five assembly seats lying vacant after the MLAs of those constitiencies were elected to the Lok Sabha in this year’s elections. The party’s state leadership exuded confidence of winning all the seats.
BJP state president Bhabesh Kalita said as per the alliance, BJP will contest in three seats while its allies AGP and United Peoples’ Party Liberal (UPL) will fight the battle of ballots in one seat each.

BJP will contest in Behali, Samaguri and Dholai seats while AGP and UPPL will contest in Bongaigaon and Sidli, respectively.
Behali has been lying vacant after its MLA Ranjit Dutta was elected to the lower house of Parliament. Similarly, Samaguri was represented by Congress leader and present MP Rakibul Hussain while present MP Parimal Suklabaidya was the MLA from Dholai. AGP’s senior leader Phani Bhushan Choudhury was the legislator from Bongaigaon and UPPL’s Jayanta Basumatary was the MLA from Sidli.
BJP held a closed-door meeting on Sunday night to chalk out the strategies and prepare the candidate list for the bypolls.
