Patna: A man allegedly killed his wife and one-and-a-half-year-old son in Jamui district after she refused to give him Rs 2,200.
The woman, Rinku Devi (35) and her son Pranjal Kumar, natives of Karma village under Jhajha police station area of Jamui district, were missing from their home since Sunday. On Monday, their bodies were recovered from Nagi Dam, on the outskirts of the village.
Rinku’s husband has been arrested, police said.
Rinku had been married to
Pappu Yadav (40) for about 10 years.
According to Jhajha police, the woman’s husband claimed while he was grazing cattle in the field, his wife and the child went missing from home around 1.30pm on Sunday. He told the police that when he returned home to take his lunch, he did not find them and he immediately called his in-laws in Karhara village under the same police station to inquire about them. Even the woman’s brother, Manoj Yadav, helped Pappu to find the mother-son duo. They contacted other relatives also over the phone but could not find them, said the police.
“The incident occurred over a family dispute. An FIR was registered against the husband on the statement of the Rinku’s father, Suresh Yadav. Pappu is a construction worker, while his wife was engaged in ‘bidi’ making in the village,” said Jhajha SHO, Sanjay Singh.
However, Rinku’s father alleged in the FIR that Pappu had been demanding a dowry of Rs 2 lakh for a long time. “She had earned Rs 2,200 through ‘beedi’ making. Pappu was demanding the money, which she refused, leading to a dispute between them. On Sunday also a quarrel had broken out between the couple, as the ‘kheer’ prepared by Rinku, was eaten by her deaf mute sister-in-law. Owing to the brewing tension over refusal of money, Pappu killed his wife and son,” said the SHO quoting the FIR.
