Farmer washed away in river in Namakkal district
Coimbatore: A farmer was washed away in the Thirumanimutharu River near Elachipalayam in Namakkal district on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Periyasamy, 59, of Konnaiyar village near Elachipalayam in Namakkal district.
Around 5am on Monday Periyasamy, who rears cattle, attempted to cross the Thirumanimutharu River with a milk can. However, he was unable to withstand the water current and was washed away.

He raised an alarm and villagers alerted fire and rescue services personnel, who reached the spot and launched a search.
Fire brigadiers from Tiruchengode in Namakkal district, later found the body and the milk can, stuck between two rocks in the river. They retrieved the body and sent it to the Tiruchengode govt hospital for a postmortem. Elachipalayam police have registered a case and are investigating further.
The water level in the Thirumanimutharu River had increased due to heavy rain in the Eastern Ghats in Salem district. The river crosses Elachipalayam, Konnaiyar, Manickampalayam, Pillur, and Paramathi in Namakkal district and joins the Cauvery River at Kattuputhur in Trichy district.
