Jamshedpur: A 25-year-old man,
Rohit Singh, also known as Chotu, was shot dead by unknown assailants while he was sleeping on a cot in a cattle shed next to his house in Kitadih Colony in the early hours of Monday. Bagbera police detained one person for questioning in this connection.
Rohit’s family members discovered him lying lifeless on the cot they went to wake him up.
They rushed him to Tata Main Hospital (TMH) but could not save him.
Bhawnath Singh, Rohit’s uncle, said the injury mark suggests on the body the assailants shot him in the back of his ear. He said the door of the house was closed and Rohit was sleeping alone in the shed. No one heard the gunshot. Singh also revealed that about five days ago, Rohit had intervened to stop a physical altercation between two women in the locality who were fighting over a petty matter related to their children. While trying to separate them, Rohit pushed the women apart, causing one of them to fall and get hurt. According to Singh, the family members of the injured woman had threatened Rohit with dire consequences at that time.
Pravesh Chandra Singh, the officer-in-charge of Bagbera police station, said one person has been detained for questioning in connection with the case. He added that an investigation is ongoing and the motive behind the murder is yet to be determined.
