Bengaluru/Mangaluru: Karnataka unit of BJP has written to President
Droupadi Murmu, PM
Narendra Modi and Union home minister
Amit Shah urging them to intervene and reverse the govt's decision to withdraw police cases pertaining to the 2022 Hubballi riot.
In separate letters, opposition leader in the legislative council, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy claimed the decision to withdraw cases was a "constitutional violation and organised crime by the people in power in the state of Karnataka".
"Madam, a mob of 158 people against whom serious allegations are registered have been made to go scott-free by this anti-constitutional decision of the Karnataka cabinet (sic)" he wrote to Murmu. "The fear of these anti-social elements again entering into such heinous crimes exists as these anti-social elements may bounce back if let free (sic)."
He goes on to say, "Continuing with a series of initiatives of appeasing a certain sect of people this time the Karnataka Indian National Congress leaders have entered into a case of organised anti-national crime, and this is a shameful anti-constitutional collective decision. I appeal to your good self to insist upon the Karnataka govt to reconsider this decision. We strongly feel this constitutional decision a fit case against the Karnataka Cabinet to be registered under the organised anti-national crimes act if any and we will take a call on the same in the coming days (sic)."
A similar letter was also sent to Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union minister of state for law and justice.
In Mangaluru on Tuesday, BJP state president BY Vijayendra said a delegation of party functionaries will meet President Murmu and urge her to dissolve the Siddaramaiah-led Congress govt. "BJP brass has been discussing seeking dissolution of the Congress govt in the state. A decision on when to take a delegation to meet the President will be decided soon," Vijayendra said.
He also ridiculed Siddaramaiah for what he called "failure to support backward, minority, and Dalit communities". "The CM, who came to the helm with the Ahinda slogan, is meting out injustice to these communities," he said.
Protest in Hubballi on Oct 25
On withdrawing cases, especially against AIMIM leaders in the Hubballi incident, Vijayendra said the cabinet has decided to support "anti-nationals". "It is an unpardonable crime on the part of the state govt that even when the National Investigation Agency (NIA) began an investigation, the cabinet decided to withdraw the cases. We already held a protest in Bengaluru. We will hold a mass protest in Hubballi on Oct 25."
