Dismissed official held on graft charge

Ludhiana: The Vigilance Bureau arrested dismissed patwari Gurnam Singh and his associate Rana Singh on graft charges on Monday. The arrest followed an inquiry conducted by the VB on the complaint of a Dulley village resident. Grunam Singh allegedly took a bribe of Rs 65,000 through his associates Buta Singh and Rana Singh to issue mutation of a plot during his service at revenue halqa Gill.Complainant Sarabjit Singh alleged that Buta Singh and Rana Singh arranged his meeting with patwari Gurnam Singh, who demanded Rs 1 lakh for mutation (inteqal) of his plot. He said that the accused took the money in three installments. A VB official said that Gurnam Singh had been arrested and convicted by the VB earlier too. He was out on bail. Buta Singh is at large.
