The priest had left the temple premises to view a Ramlila programme on Sunday night and, upon his return, found that the Radha-Krishna and Durga idols had been damaged.
An FIR has been registered against unknown persons under BNS section 298 (injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult religion of any class) at Jarcha police station. A team has also been deployed at the temple to ensure the safety and security of the premises and the devotees, police said. Cops are investigating the matter and examining CCTV footage near the temple to identify and trace the suspects responsible for the vandalism.
Meanwhile, the temple authorities have followed the custom of immersing the damaged idols in water and have instated new ones in their place.
Authorities assured the residents that they will take all necessary steps to maintain law and order and protect the sanctity of religious places.
The residents came together to condemn the incident and appealed for peace and unity in the face of such provocations. They also emphasized the importance of respecting all religions and maintaining communal harmony, which is essential for the progress and development of the village and the nation as a whole.
