Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde announces toll waiver for light motor vehicles at 5 toll booths for entry into Mumbai

Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde announces a toll exemption for light motor vehicles at all five entry points into Mumbai, effective from midnight. This decision aims to save time for approximately 2.80 lakh light vehicles that use these toll booths daily. The government has been deliberating for months before implementing this substantial relief for commuters.

MUMBAI: Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde on Monday announced that light motor vehicles would be granted complete toll exemption at all five toll booths leading into Mumbai.
Maharashtra minister Dadaji Dagadu Bhuse said, "At the time of entry into Mumbai, there were 5 toll plazas, including Dahisar toll, Anand Nagar toll, Vaishali, Airoli and Mulund."
"Rs. 45 and Rs. 75 were charged at these tolls, this was in effect till 2026.

About 3.5 lakh vehicles used to travel up and down. About 70 thousand of them were heavy vehicles and 2.80 lakh were light vehicles."
"Today, the government has decided to exempt light vehicles from toll after 12 midnight. The time that people used to spend in queues will be saved. The government was discussing it for many months and today this revolutionary decision has been taken," he added further.
Shinde made the announcement at the state cabinet meeting in Mumbai.
The toll waiver will take effect from midnight.
The exemption is set to be implemented at all five entry points to Mumbai, ensuring that the benefits are widespread and accessible to a large number of commuters.
