JioCinema reports 16mn paid subscribers in Q2 FY25; growth fueled by affordable plans, sports offerings, Bigg Boss OTT

Network18 Media & Investments Limited announced its results for the quarter ended September 30, 2024. In its financial update, the company outlined the performance of its subscription-based OTT platform, JioCinema.

According to Network18 Media & Investments’ earnings release for Q2 FY2024-25, JioCinema reached 16 million paid subscribers, reflecting a 2x quarter-over-quarter growth. Affordable monthly subscription plans of ₹29/month and ₹89/month (family plan), along with an expanding content catalog, have contributed to this growth.

The company also highlighted how the third season of the digital exclusive Bigg Boss OTT was the top driver of subscriptions and watch time. Bigg Boss Marathi replicated its success on television, becoming the third most-watched show on the platform.

Network non-fiction shows such as Laughter Chefs, Khatron Ke Khiladi, and Splitsvilla were complemented by digital exclusives like Shekhar Home and Pill.

The international content catalog on JioCinema was a key driver of subscriber acquisition during the quarter. Popular international shows and movies added to the platform included Kung Fu Panda 4, Dune 2, Godzilla x Kong, and Fall Guy.

In sports, Viacom18’s coverage of the Paris Olympics 2024 achieved the highest viewership for the event, attracting more than 170 million viewers and generating 15 billion minutes of watch time across JioCinema and Sports18.

JioCinema provided up to 20 concurrent live streams across 17 dedicated feeds for sports, along with three curated streams for India matches and other high-interest events. A studio panel featuring prominent sports personalities and experts delivered supplemental content, offering unparalleled coverage of the event.

The combination of comprehensive coverage and a growing interest in non-cricket sports resulted in high engagement, averaging over 50 minutes per day on JioCinema.

The network also broadcast the India vs. Bangladesh cricket test series, the Indian Super League, and other popular sports events, solidifying its position as the home of sports.
