Air India Flight From Mumbai To New York Diverted To Delhi Following Bomb Threat

Mumbai, 14th October 2024: An Air India flight travelling from Mumbai to New York was rerouted to New Delhi due to a bomb threat. The plane safely landed at Indira Gandhi International Airport.

All passengers and crew members onboard were unharmed.

According to a senior police official, the aircraft is currently stationed at the airport, and standard safety procedures are being thoroughly implemented to ensure the safety of everyone onboard.

Delhi Police confirmed that there were 239 passengers on the flight at the time of the diversion. The bomb threat had been issued via a post on the social media platform X.

An Air India spokesperson commented, stating that a specific security warning was received regarding flight AI119, operating from Mumbai to JFK on October 14. The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), the aviation security regulator, requested the flight to be diverted to Delhi, where it landed safely. All passengers have since disembarked and are at the terminal.

Air India also emphasized that their ground staff is working to reduce the inconvenience caused to passengers due to the disruption, reiterating their commitment to the safety and security of both passengers and crew.

This incident follows a similar threat on October 9, when a Vistara flight from London to New Delhi received a bomb warning. The aircraft landed safely at Delhi’s airport after a note about a bomb was found in one of the lavatories. Approximately 290 passengers were on board.

By safety protocols, authorities were notified immediately, and the aircraft was moved to an isolation bay for inspection after it landed safely.
