The
Congress Parliamentary Committee met on Monday to take stock of the current political situation and preparedness of the party for the ensuing assembly elections. Besides AICC general secretary Ramesh Chennithala and MPCC president Nana Patole, the meeting was attended by Congress legislature party leader Balsaheb Thorat, leader of opposition Vijay Wadettiwar and former CM Sushilkumar Shinde.
According to a senior Congress leader, the parliamentary committee will scrutinise the list of nominees for the polls and submit a comprehensive report to the screening committee.
Congress is contesting the assembly elections under the banner of Maha Vikas Aghadi, comprising Congress, Sharad Pawar-led NCP and UBT Shiv Sena led by Uddhav Thackeray.
Meanwhile, BJP's former legislator Dhrupadrao Sawale and Avinash Ghate, MNS state vice-president Vithal Lokhandkar and NCP's Kamal Farukhi have joined the Congress. tnn
