KAITHAL: Gurmail Baljit Singh, one of the two accused arrested for the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique in Mumbai, belongs to a village in Haryana’s Kaithal and has a criminal background.
Three cases one of them of murder have been registered against him, police said, adding he allegedly killed his cousin (son of his father’s elder brother) with a sharp object on May 31, 2019.

He was lodged in Kaithal jail, where he established links with as sociates of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, according to sources. Once out on bail around 3 to 4 months back, he moved to Mumbai, developing his connections further.
On Saturday night, three men waylaid 66-year-old Siddique in Mumbai’s Bandra area just outside his MLA son Zeeshan Siddique’s office and shot him. The second assai lant is Dharmaraj Rajesh Kashyap from Uttar Pradesh, while the third is on the run.
Gurmail and his associates had been in Mumbai for about 2 months, tracking the movements of the former minister.
Parents of Gurmail, who belongs to Narar village under Titram police station in Kaithal, died a long time back. He is survived by his grandmother Phooli Devi, who resides with his younger step brother.
“Around 4 months ago, he just left the house without informing anyone when I went to dispose of trash. He has caused me immense pain and I don’t care if the police shoot him,” said his grandmother. Referring to his imprisonment for the murder of his cousin, she said, “I don’t know who got him out of jail.” “We have no ties with him,” she added.
Titram police station SHO said that the three cases against Gurmel had been filed at Titram, Civil Lines and city police stations. Police are investigating Gurmel’s record to uncover his criminal history, the SHO added.
