Ranchi: Ravan Dahan (burning of Ravan effigies) ceremony held on Saturday at Morabadi ground in Ranchi witnessed a turnout of nearly 1 lakh people, making it one of the grandest Dussehra celebrations in the city. The event, organized by Punjabi Hindu Biradari, was graced by CM
Hemant Soren and Union MoS (defense) Sanjay Seth as the chief guests.
Sudhir Uggal, president of the organizing committee, said, "Effigies of Ravan, Kumbhkaran, and Meghnath were set ablaze.
The Ravan effigy stood at an impressive 70 feet, while Kumbhkaran and Meghnath measured 65 and 60 feet respectively."
Soren extended his warm wishes to the people of Ranchi, reminding them of the significance of Dussehra as a celebration of the victory of truth and righteousness. Seth highlighted the cultural importance of the festival in promoting unity and brotherhood among all sections of society.
Children dressed as Ram, Lakshman, and Sita added to the festive atmosphere, attracting crowds eager to capture selfies with them.
In addition to the main event at Morabadi ground, another Ravan Dahan programme was organized at Jatra Maidan by the Namkum Durga Puja Committee and Ravan Dahan Committee, Sidraul Joda Mandir. Khijri MLA Rajesh Kacchap, the chief guest, set fire to the effigy of Ravan.
The city of Ranchi also witnessed a simultaneous Ravan Dahan celebration at Argora. As the effigies burned and fireworks illuminated the night sky, the crowds erupted in cheers, marking the conclusion of another Dussehra celebration.
