KANPUR:In a tragic
road accident that occurred on Monday morning, five individuals, including four students from Pranveer Singh Institute of Technology (PSIT), lost their lives at the Kanpur-Delhi national highway at Panki-Bhaunti overbridge cut, which falls under the jurisdiction of Sachendi police station in the city.
Among the four deceased PSIT students were two female students, identified as Ayushi Patel, a first-year B.Tech student, and Garima Tripathi, a third-year B.Tech student.
The other two students were Prateek Singh, a fourth-year B.Tech student, and Satish, a third-year B.Tech student. The driver of the car, Vijay Sahu, a resident of Sanigwan, also perished in the accident.
Upon receiving the information, the police promptly arrived at the scene and took custody of the bodies, sending them for post-mortem examination.
According to the police, the accident took place near the overbridge cut in Panki Bhauti. "As a dumper traveling at high speed on the highway from Ramadevi to Panki -Bhauti suddenly applied its brakes, the car following it was forced to brake as well. Unfortunately, a trailer that was behind both vehicles collided with the car, crushing it between the dumper and the trailer, resulting in severe damage.
The impact of the accident was so severe that it claimed the lives of the four PSIT students and the driver instantly at the scene of the crash," the Police added.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Rajesh Kumar Singh stated that the tragic accident occurred on the Kanpur-Delhi highway, within the jurisdiction of Sachendi police station.
"The extensive damage to the car resulted in the entrapment of all the occupants. To retrieve the bodies, the car had to be cut open and the glass shattered," said DCP and added, "It has been confirmed that four among the five deceased were students at PSIT.
The authorities have taken the necessary steps to inform their family members about the tragic event."
