Makeshift dumpsite comes up at DLF 5; will streamline collection, says MCG
Gurgaon: Residents of DLF-5 are faced with a daily hassle of having to wade through a huge pile of garbage accumulated near Heritage International Xperiential School on St Thomas Road.
According to the residents, the situation has deteriorated since the pandemic, when MCG stopped door-to-door garbage collection from the nearby Harizan colony. Over four years later, the lack of proper waste management has worsened the problem, leading to piles of trash being dumped along the roadside.

The unsanitary conditions in the area are not only a health hazard but also cause inconvenience to commuters and pedestrians. "The garbage lies there for days and emits an unbearable stench. We have raised the issue with the authorities multiple times, but the situation hasn't improved. Stray animals rummage through the garbage, further scattering it," said Archana Kacker, a resident of Westend Heights.
In an attempt to address the issue, MCG had placed a trolley at the site for garbage collection. However, residents said the trolley too, was not being cleared regularly.
The road has also been partially blocked for vehicles passing through by the scattered garbage, stray animals and the overflowing trolley kept for garbage collection, creating scope for further congestion in the area, residents said.
"It has become impossible to navigate this road during rush hours. The garbage is not just a nuisance, it is also dangerous for our health and the health of our children. There are many residential societies here, and a school. The MCG need to step up and ensure proper garbage collection for the nearby colonies. Placing a garbage-collection trolley at the site is not the solution," said Priti Anand, secretary, Westend Heights condominium association.
Meanwhile, the joint commissioner of MCG (Swacchh Bharat Mission), Akhilesh Kumar, said that they were clearing the trolley regularly. "We have already identified areas where door-to-door collection is not happening. We will also start an awareness drive for the residents to ensure that they understand the importance of giving waste to authorised collectors only. Problem also arises as many people do not want to pay the user fee to the collectors," said Kumar, adding that the contractor will also be directed to streamline the collection services.
