Hisar: Six people, including a doctor, chartered accountant and teacher, were defrauded of over Rs 15 lakh by cyber frauds in
Haryana.
The modus operandi involved calling customer care for installation of air conditioner, updating the location of courier delivery, making online investment, giving work from home and luring to transfer the amount of insurance maturity.
Hisar Cyber police station registered six FIRs against unknown people. Dr Rajni Agarwal, a doctor of Agroha Medical College, told police that she had bought an AC on July 15 and searched for the customer care number to install it and called on it. The “customer care executive” said first a payment of Rs 10 will have to be made for a visit.
After this, she made the payment as per their instructions but when Rs 29,001 was deducted from her bank account, they said that it happened “by mistake” and they would refund the amount. She kept doing what they said and till “now a total of Rs 3,52,684 has been deducted” from her bank account, she said. Savita, a teacher at BRCM College, Bahal, who lives in a hostel of HAU, said she was cheated of Rs 6.8 lakh in the name of work from home. Barwala resident Usha, a chartered accountant, said on her Instagram account, she saw an advertisement about investment. When she clicked on it, Rs 1,50,000 was fraudulently transferred from her account, she said.
