Pune: A 25-year-old constable attached to the Bhosari police sustained injuries on his left hand while resisting robbers, who barged into his bungalow in the early hours of Sunday in Shel Pimpalgaon village near Chakan, 30km from here. The gang made off with gold jewellery worth Rs55,000 from the bungalow of constable Aniket Daundkar.
A case under sections 310 (dacoity) and 311 (robbery, or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) was registered with the Chakan police.
An officer from the Chakan police said that when the incident occurred, Daundkar, who is preparing for his MPSC exam, was at a study session located around a kilometre from his house. His elder brother and the latter's wife were in the house. "After sensing someone inside the house, Daundkar's brother called him," the officer said.
Daundkar immediately reached the bungalow along with his friends. "When the suspects found that people started gathering, they ran out. Though it was dark outside, Daundkar nabbed one of them. Seeing this, the suspect's accomplice attacked him with a sharp weapon," he said.
The officer said that Daundkar sustained injuries on his left hand. After realising that the suspects were armed, Daundkar alerted his friends not to chase them. "The suspects fled from there. Daundkar could see three of them. But CCTV in the area captured six men," the officer said, adding, "We are searching for them."
