Both are from Uttar Pradesh. "It was Yadav's birthday on Friday," sub-inspector Sarang Thakare of the Hinjewadi police said.
Thakare said that they came to Pune for the engagement. "The accident took place around 4.30am when they were returning from the function. Yadav was driving a friend's motorcycle," Thakare said.
He lost control and crashed into a tree along the road in Hinjewadi. "They sustained severe injuries. Their friends, who were following them in other vehicles, alerted us," Thakare said.
The officer said the duo was shifted to a nearby hospital in one of their friend's cars. "The doctors declared both dead on arrival," he said. "We registered a case against Yadav under Section 106 (causing death by negligence) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Our investigations are going on," Thakare said.
