School principal shot dead by younger brother
Guwahati: A school principal in Manipur’s Thoubal district was shot dead by his younger brother on Saturday night, following a heated argument. Police has registered a suo moto case and is probing the incident.
According to sources, the deceased, 47-year-old Sapam Swaminath Singh, was shot by his brother Sapam Somorjit Singh, 38, who works as a security guard at an ATM.

The argument, regarding a family matter, led to Swaminath sustaining gunshot injuries, before being declared dead at a private hospital in Imphal. “It was a family matter which turned deadly. Swaminath sustained gunshot injuries and was declared dead at hospital,” said a source. The incident took place around 8:50 pm at their residence.
While Somorjit has been arrested, the firearm, used in the incident, has been seized.
Police has registered a case under sections 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and 25 (1-B) Arms Act. Swaminath’s body has been sent to JNIMS in Imphal for post-mortem.
