NEW DELHI: The Central government has granted 'Z' category security cover by the Central Reserve Police Force (
CRPF) to Karnataka Governor
Thawar Chand Gehlot. The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued a written order regarding the decision, following a recent security threat assessment by the Intelligence Bureau, sources said.
CRPF personnel have already taken over the security of the Karnataka Governor, while other related procedures are expected to be completed by this week, according to sources familiar with the matter who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Gehlot will receive the Z category security cover within Karnataka only.
The 76-year-old leader assumed the office of Karnataka Governor in July 2021, becoming the 13th person to hold the position and the first from Madhya Pradesh. Previously, he served as the Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment in the Central Government from 2014 to 2021.
He also held the position of Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha and was a member of both the BJP's Parliamentary Board and Central Election Committee.
