Police cane students seeking cancellation of SI job exam
Jaipur: A large group of students, most of whom appeared for the 2021 sub-inspector (SI) recruitment exam but did not clear it, held a candlelight march at Riddhi Siddhi Square in Jaipur on Saturday, demanding the cancellation of the recruitment.
As the protest caused a traffic jam, the police resorted to mild lathi-charge to disperse the crowd.
Earlier in the day, the protestors gathered outside the residence of BJP MLA Kirori Lal Meena, urging him to support their demand for cancelling the recruitment.
After the police dispersed the group from Meena's residence, they regrouped at Riddhi Siddhi Square and resumed their protest.
A senior police official said that the Gopalpura Bypass, being a hub for coaching centres, attracted a large number of students to the protest site. "The procession disrupted traffic, and after issuing warnings to the crowd to disperse, the police were forced to use mild force when they refused to leave," the officer explained. The protestors demanded the cancellation of the recruitment exam, citing the ongoing investigation by the Special Operations Group (SOG), which they say has uncovered that several successful candidates had access to leaked exam papers. One protestor said that many trainees went missing from their training, which they believe is proof that these candidates were selected through dishonest means.
Another protestor expressed frustration over how the recruitment process shattered the dreams of hardworking candidates. "Many of us spent years preparing and investing heavily in coaching, only to be left out while those who bought leaked papers secured their positions. We urge the govt to cancel the exam and give genuine candidates another chance," she said.
The protest came as the state govt is to decide the fate of the 2021 SI recruitment exam soon, with mounting pressure from both sides.
