New Delhi: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation's line 4, connecting Yamuna Bank with Vaishali in Ghaziabad, has achieved carbon neutral certification.
"It marks a significant milestone in
DMRC's efforts towards providing sustainable urban transportation and commitment to combating climate change. This milestone underlines DMRC's commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and addressing climate change," said Anuj Dayal, principal executive director, corporate communications, DMRC.
This certification follows DMRC's earlier success in obtaining carbon neutral certification for its corporate headquarters at Metro Bhawan and the staff quarters in Sector 50, Noida.
"DMRC successfully minimised its carbon footprint by adopting various sustainable, environment-friendly initiatives such as implementing energy-efficient technologies like regenerative braking in rolling stock, using more renewable power in operations, constructing rainwater harvesting pits, and implementing efficient waste management systems," said Dayal.
Line 4 is the shortest line in DMRC's network, measuring 8.511 km in length and consisting of a total of eight stations. Both line 3 and 4 are Blue lines. Aligned with the govt of India's goal to reach net zero emissions by 2070, DMRC is making significant strides towards carbon neutrality by integrating advanced environmental practices. "DMRC's commitment extends beyond just certification; it aims to inspire other urban transportation systems to adopt similar sustainable practices by setting a benchmark in eco-friendly operations," said Dayal. He added that DMRC remains committed to leading the way in sustainable transportation.
