Baba Siddique murder case: Mumbai police arrest the third accused from Pune

On Sunday, Mumbai police apprehended the third culprit in the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique. The offender has been named as Pravin Lonkar, 28, who was apprehended in Pune.

He is thought to be one of the primary conspirators who recruited Dharmaraj Kashyap and Shivkumar Gautam, the absconding gunman, for the plot. Further inquiry is underway. So far, two of the three shooters who killed the Maharashtra politician have been apprehended and brought before a court. A holiday court today remanded both the defendants, Gurmail Singh and Dharamraj Kashyap, in police custody until October 21. Another shooter has fled.

Meanwhile, Mumbai police have travelled to Madhya Pradesh in pursuit of a person accused of murdering lawmaker and former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique, according to a PTI official. Siddique, a leader of the Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party, was assassinated outside his son’s office in Bandra yesterday.

The 66-year-old NCP politician was targeted by three men in Kher Nagar, Mumbai’s Bandra region, close outside his MLA son Zeeshan Siddique’s office. Surprisingly, the incident occurred on a busy thoroughfare amid the Dussehra celebrations, a day when the police were on heightened alert.

According to Mumbai Police, the injured Siddique was immediately brought to Lilavati Hospital and confirmed dead.
Two guns and 28 live bullets were found on the two accused. The police further stated that six shots were fired at Siddique, three of which struck him in the chest.
