3 arrested for cheating retd Army officer of 2 crore
Noida: Three men were arrested on Friday for allegedly cheating a retired Army officer of nearly Rs 2 crore in Aug this year. The suspects are part of a gang involved in cyber frauds, police said.
In Aug, the officer received a call from ‘DHL Courier', saying a parcel with drugs, passports, and credit cards in his name had been found in Mumbai. The scammers convinced him that his Aadhaar details were stolen and pretended to connect him to Mumbai police for filing a case.

Then two "officials," who identified themselves as Ajay Kumar Bansal and DC Rajput, made him believe that his bank accounts may be hacked and made him transfer all his money into accounts they had given.
After realising he was scammed, he filed a complaint, and a case was registered under sections 308 (02) (extortion), 319 (4) (cheating by personation), 318 (4) (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of BNS and Section 66 (D) (punishment for cheating by personation by using computer resource) of the IT Act. Later, Section 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) was added to the charges.
The accused, Kanaram Gurjar (30), Lalit Kumar (22), and Sachin Kumar (30), are residents of the Alwar district in Rajasthan. "On Oct 11, Kanaram, Lalit, and Sachin were arrested from Jaipur district," said Priti Yadav, DCP (cyber). On Oct 2, their accomplice Rajkumar was arrested in Mumbai, officials said.
The gang would call elderly people and retired officers and pose as police officials. They would "digitally arrest" them, force them to pay money and "settle" the cases against them. They would then get the money transferred to the bank accounts of students and restaurant workers in Jaipur and Jodhpur, and give them a commission for using their accounts for those transactions. It was found that 76 complaints in multiple states have been registered against the accounts provided by him.
"The remaining members of the gang are being traced, and further investigation is underway," said Yadav.
