Kanpur: Over 50,000 spectators at the Parade ground and its vicinity were enthralled on Saturday evening when a laser show, replete with lighting and music displayed the figures of Lord Sri Ram, Hanuman and others in the sky.
Around 120 drones soared through the sky at 9.15 pm heralding the commencement of the laser show which was a part of the Ram lila at the Parade ground.
For about 30 minutes, all eyes were fixed on the inaugural laser show, captivating spectators, passers-by on the roads, and people observing from their rooftops.
The fireworks of the Parade Ram Lila once again proved to be the highlight of the event. The display was so magnificent that the sky was illuminated with a kaleidoscope of colours for nearly half an hour as the crackers burst. The entire area reverberated with chants of "Jai Sri Ram!"
As soon as the Ram Lila concluded with the burning of Ravana's effigy, the laser show became the topic of discussion among all who had witnessed the spectacle, which was being held for only the second time in the state.
The Ram Lila organizing committee expressed their delight with member Alok Agarwal stating, "Our efforts to introduce something new have proven successful. People will remember this for a long time."
Effigies of Ravana were burnt at many places, virtually in all Hindu localities such as Kidwai Nagar, Kamla Nehru Park, Ratan Lal Nagar, Nawabganj, Ram Bagh, Sisamau, Arya Nagar, Barra, Bara Devi Saket Nagar, and Fazalganj. Moreover, most housing societies in Kanpur also participated in the burning of Ravana's effigy.
The effigy makers earned substantial profits by selling effigies of various sizes. Children purchased them, showcased the effigies embedded with firecrackers, and subsequently burnt them in front of gatherings.
During the daytime, the immersion of goddess Durga's deity also took place. Devotees transported the large idols on loaders or trucks to artificial ponds situated on the banks of Ganga for immersion. They smeared coloured powder on each other and immersed the idols following customs and rituals. In the Hindu community, people, especially Kshatriyas, worshipped their arms and ammunition.
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) also celebrated its foundation day as the organization was established in 1925 on Dussehra. The RSS also conducted worship of arms and ammunition. The final part of Ram Lila, ‘Bharat Milap'. was held on Sunday, marking the conclusion of Ram Lila at various venues across the city.
The Bengali community also celebrated
Durga Puja on Dussehra. In the morning, women offered prayers for Navami, and in the afternoon, performed special prayers adhering to complete customs and rituals.
Thereafter, married women participated in ‘Sindoor Khela' at nearly all Durga Pandals. Subsequently, they carried the idols to immersion ponds amidst firecrackers and rituals.
