Mann: Let’s join hands to restore Punjab’s old glory
Amritsar: Greeting people on Dussehra, Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann Saturday exhorted them to embrace the path of righteousness to fight social ills.
Mann said the festival, which marks the triumph of good over evil, reminds one of the importance of humility, control over one’s emotions and brotherhood. “Pride, anger and hatred led to the downfall of even the most intelligent person, demon king Ravana,” he added.
Urging the people to join hands with govt to restore the former glory of the state, Mann said India has a long tradition of celebrating this festival, and the values it embodies play a pivotal role in fostering goodwill, peace and communal harmony within society.

It also serves as a guide for ideal living, aiming to create an egalitarian and harmonious society.
He called on the people to commit themselves to the promotion of peace, amity and brotherhood in the state on this joyous occasion. The true essence of Dussehra lies in fighting injustice, evil and egotism through love and secularism, he added.
Stampede-like situation
Chaos erupted at the Dussehra ground during Bhagwant Mann’s programme when the effigy of Ravana was set ablaze, reportedly creating a stampede-like situation. As the effigy burned, people began to retreat, leading to the collapse of a few barricades. Unconfirmed reports suggest that two persons were injured. However, police commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar denied any chaos during the festival. He said the sound of explosives startled some attendees, causing brief panic, but no one was injured.
