Ludhiana: Manpreet Kaur wanted to relocate to Italy. An “immigration consultant” gave the city resident an “appointment letter”, claiming that he has arranged a job for her in Italy.
However, after accepting money, he failed to arrange a visa for her. Kaur lost Rs 7.42 lakh to the fake immigration consultant. On July 29, Kaur, a resident of Bhagwant Chowk, Gill Road, filed a complaint with the city police.
An inquiry was marked on the complaint following which the police lodged an FIR. Police have booked Sonu of Nirmal Immigration in the Sanjay Gandhi Market area in Jalandhar. ASI Ranbir Singh, investigating officer from Division Number 6 police station, said that during the inquiry the police also discovered that the accused had provided a forged job letter to the victim. Manpreet Kaur told police that she wanted to go to Italy on a work visa. She came in contact with the accused through a reference.
She met the accused, a resident of Green Park area of Jalandhar, who assured her a visa as well as a job in Italy.
The accused took Rs 7.42 lakh from her in different installments and also gave her a “job letter”. After getting the letter, she got ready to leave for Italy. The woman added that the accused kept on delaying the process. Accused did not arrange the visa.
