Chandigarh: Punjab Police on Friday sounded a red alert for the state ahead of the
Dussehra celebrations and
panchayat elections for the sake of public safety and security.
Special director general of police (law and order) Arpit Shukla reviewed security arrangements during a surprise visit to Jalandhar and confirmed the laying of more than 600 “hi-tech checkpoints” statewide for searching vehicles.
Police have sealed the inter-state and inter-district borders. Shukla also visited Jalandhar’s markets to interact with senior cops deployed there.
