Patiala: Panchayat candidate Gulzar Mohammad’s suicide at Nardu after an attempt on life and “forced” withdrawal of nomination has prompted police to register a case against seven villagers.
Gulzar, 50, took his own life on Wednesday after a rival candidate’s supporters harassed him to that point, allegedly. After he pulled out of race, a rumour spread that he had accepted money to step down.
His son, Sajrukh Khan, filed a complaint at the Kheri Gandia police station that his father’s harassment had intensified after the withrawal of nomination, and that distress had “forced him to consume poison”. Accused Sarabjit Singh, Raj, Sharanjit Singh, Jatinder Singh, Tarlochan Singh, Tara Singh, and Gurmeet Singh were charged under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act. On Sept 30, Gulzar was driving his son when a group had shot at him from a car and fled. Police claimed to have found Pritpal Singh and his gang involved in this attack.
