Kanpur: Police busted a cattle smuggling gang and arrested six persons in this connection following an encounter in Mohammadabad area of Farrukhabad district late on Wednesday night.
Acting on a tip-off, the SOG team and Jahanaganj police cordoned off the area near Berna Khurd village.
When the police attempted to apprehend the accused, who were trasporting the cattle in a container, the latter opened fire.
When the police retaliated in self-defence, one of the smugglers identified as Uwais (24), a resident of Nagariya village in Azimnagar police station area of Rampur district, suffered bullet injury.
Following the exchange of gunfire, the police arrested six persons. The police also seized two pistols from the suspects. The injured smuggler was later admitted to Kamalganj CHC for treatment.
