US Upland cotton sales down 7%, Pima 4% this week: USDA

Net sales of Upland cotton in the United States for the 2024-25 season totalled 89,600 running bales (RB), each weighing 226.8 kg (500 pounds). This represents a 7 per cent decrease from the previous week and a 12 per cent decline from the prior 4-week average.

According to the USDA's export sales report for the week ending October 10, significant sales increases were primarily noted for Vietnam (56,600 RB), Mexico (11,700 RB), Pakistan (10,100 RB), Turkiye (9,200 RB), and Nicaragua (4,300 RB). These gains were partially offset by reductions in sales to China (8,000 RB), India (1,800 RB), and Japan (300 RB).

For the 2025-26 season, total net sales of 13,200 RB were recorded for Turkiye. Exports of 95,100 RB decreased by 11 per cent from the previous week and 13 per cent compared to the prior 4-week average. The main export destinations were Pakistan (24,700 RB), Mexico (13,600 RB), Honduras (9,300 RB), Guatemala (7,100 RB), and Vietnam (6,800 RB).

Net sales of Pima cotton for the 2024-25 season totalled 9,100 RB, reflecting a 4 per cent decrease from the previous week and a 19 per cent drop compared to the prior 4-week average. Sales increased primarily for India (4,100 RB, including reductions of 100 RB), China (3,100 RB), Colombia (1,200 RB), Turkiye (500 RB), and Guatemala (200 RB), while sales to Japan decreased by 100 RB.

Exports of Pima cotton totalled 6,500 RB, unchanged from the previous week but up 2 per cent compared to the prior 4-week average. The primary export destinations were India (2,600 RB), China (2,200 RB), Pakistan (700 RB), Bahrain (400 RB), and Japan (300 RB).
