Thane: A 20-year-old man was arrested for allegedly murdering his grandmother (77) with a grinding stone after she accused him of stealing her husband's pension money of Rs 12,000. The accused, identified as Abhi Chauhan, was arrested by Srinagar police station in Thane.
Police said the incident occurred in a chawl in Sathe Nagar area of Wagle Estate, where the victim, Dayawati Chauhan, resided.
The accused lived with his mother and sister on the floor above the victim's residence. Dayawati's late husband served in the armed forces, and she received his monthly pension of Rs 12,000 following his death.
Police said the deceased recently collected her pension money and kept it somewhere in her house. When the money mysteriously disappeared, she began suspecting her grandson and frequently confronted him with accusations and verbal abuse. — Nishikant Karlikar
