Dy accountant caught taking 5,000 bribe

Ahmedabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) caught Mahesh Desai, a 36-year-old deputy accountant in the pension payment office, accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000. The department received a complaint informing them that Desai was asking for Rs 5,000 to release a pension of Rs 1 lakh.
The complainant's grandfather was a pensioner, and after his death, the complainant's grandmother had been receiving the pension.However, he was yet to submit the proof of survival for 2023, and during this period, the grandmother passed away.
The complainant's father, being the nominee, was entitled to the pension amount. However, according to the complainant, the accused demanded money for releasing the payment. When the complainant's father stopped taking Desai's calls, the latter called up the complainant and demanded Rs 5,000.
ACB sleuths laid a trap on Thursday and caught Desai accepting the bribe.
