Koraput: A large boulder fell onto the tracks of the Rayagada-Koraput railway line early Thursday morning, cutting the overhead equipment (OHE) wire and disrupting the power supply.
Officials said the incident occurred around 3:30 am inside Tunnel Number 3, located between the Kakiriguma and Laxmipur sections in Koraput district, approximately 58 km from Koraput station.
According to sources, the falling of the boulder caused an immediate power outage within the tunnel, halting train operations along the Rayagada-Koraput route.
Subsequently, the Rourkela-Koraput train was halted at Laxmipur station.
Also, the Bhubaneswar-Jagdalpur-Hirakhand Express was delayed by two hours.
“Our team rushed to the site to remove the rock and repair the OHE wire. Normal traffic resumed around 8 am after the track was cleared and the power supply was restored. “
He added, “Our technical team is investigating the cause of the rock fall.”said a railway spokesperson
