Kanpur: Ten people sustained burn injuries after a gas cylinder leak caused fire while preparing kheer for a Kanya Pujan in Bharua Sumerpur town of Hamirpur district on Thursday morning.
The victims were initially taken to a primary health centre from where they were referred to the district hospital after preliminary treatment.
The incident took place on Thursday morning, around nine o'clock, in the courtyard of Rajaram Prajapati's residence in Ramnagar locality where kheer was being prepared for Kanya Pujan on the occasion of Ashtami of Navratri festival.
The gas cylinder leak triggered a fire. Despite efforts to control the blaze ten people sustained burns in the chaos.
The injured persons included Rajaram Prajapati (60), his wife Tejiya (55), Amit (22), Durgesh (24), Rohit (17), Sumit (17), Vinod (24), Ashish (18), Sandeep (18), and Sunil (24), along with ten goats belonging to Rajaram. Various items in the courtyard were also damaged by the fire.
Those present at the scene used sand to extinguish the fire caused by gas leakage. Station Incharge Rakesh Kumar, upon receiving the information, visited the hospital and gathered details about the incident from the victims before sending them to the district hospital for advanced treatment.
