He was a resident of Kari village under the sadar police station of Chatra district.
Rebel Ishwar Ganjhu alias Ghutari Ganjhu from the Kunda block was also killed and Gopal Ganjhu arrested. An AK-47 rifle, a country-made pistol, three live bullets of AK-47, a bike, four mobile phones, and a few other items were seized from the encounter site, police added.
The police team was led by SDPO Sandeep Suman and officer-in-charge of Sadar police station Vipin Kumar.
DGP Anurag Gupta and DIG (North Chotanagpur range) Sunil Bhaskar on Thursday reached Chatra to motivate the personnel and announce rewards for their efforts.
DGP Gupta said Jharkhand was now free from extremism and those remaining are criminals. Ganjhu was creating trouble for people from different sections of society, he added.
Assuring that such operations would continue to keep a check on the activities of criminals, he said, “With the killing of Ganjhu, Chatra’s burden was reduced. I would say that those operating as extremist outfits are now criminals who have palatial houses. Those who fired upon the police team had got a befitting reply and got killed.”
