Chennai: Deputy chief minister
Udhayanidhi Stalin on Wednesday inspected the Avadi Govt Hospital following complaints that doctors were not posted even six months after it was revamped.
The deputy CM visited different wards and reviewed facilities. He was accompanied by minorities welfare minister S M Nasar and Tiruvallur collector Dr T Prabhushankar. In a post on X, he said, "We inquired about the treatment provided to inpatients and outpatients, and the attendance of doctors and paramedical staff to ensure there is no lapse."
The hospital was revamped at a cost of 35 crore and was inaugurated by chief minister M K Stalin in March.
A Tharanitharan, a citizen activist from Avadi, welcomed the deputy CM's surprise inspection. "We wrote to the state govt on several occasions to speed up the construction of the hospital, but it has been running as a first-aid centre even after the revamp," he said. "I hope the hospital will receive a boost with additional doctors and facilities after this," he said.
Earlier, Udhayanidhi was in Pattabiram to inaugurate patta distribution to 17,427 people. He handed over pattas to 1,200 residents in the neighbourhood. tnn
