Court verdict on Maloo’s bail plea on Oct 11

Court verdict on Maloo’s bail plea on Oct 11
Nagpur: The sessions court on Wednesday closed the hearing on the bail application of Ram Jhula accident accused Ritika Maloo, with the order set for October 11, after both the prosecution and the defence presented their arguments. On Thursday, the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is also set to produce Maloo before the court as her two-day custody is set to end.

Sources said that Maloo's defence had claimed there are settled principles of court guidelines that allow bail to be argued even when the accused is in remand custody. The prosecution, represented by additional public prosecutor Rashmi Khaparde argued before the court that the bail application had become infructuous as the sessions court had already granted the custody remand of the accused. The court is now expected to deliver its verdict on Friday.
Maloo was sent to two-day PCR between October 8 and 10 by the sessions court, allowing an application by the CID. It had taken more than 226 days for the prosecution to get the PCR of Maloo after the accident on February 25 this year, when two youngsters were killed on the Ram Jhula after being hit by the speeding black Mercedes of the accused.
