Hyderabad: Telangana govt on Wednesday released Rs 79 crore towards crop loss damage compensation in recent floods and heavy rains. Officials estimated that from Aug 31 to Sept 6, heavy to very heavy rains caused crop damage across 79,574 acres in 28 districts of the state.
Agriculture minister Tummala Nageswara Rao said the highest crop damage occurred in Khammam district (28,407 acres), followed by Mahabubabad (14,669 acres) and Suryapet (9,828 acres).
In the remaining 22 districts, crop damage ranged from a minimum of 19 acres to 3,288 acres, as confirmed by the agriculture department officials. The minister said compensation of Rs 10,000 per acre was directly deposited into the farmers' accounts.
