Ex-RS MP, former MLA Majhi dies at 83

Bhubaneswar: Former Rajya Sabha MP Dhaneswar Majhi passed away at a hospital in Kalahandi on Wednesday. He was 83. Majhi was also a former five-time MLA from Kesinga and Narla assembly constituencies in Kalahandi.
Majhi was a Rajya Sabha MP from 1978 to 1984. He was elected to the assembly in 1971, 1974, 2000, 2004 and 2014. Initially a member of Swatantra Party, Janata Dal and BJD, Majhi had joined BJP ahead of the 2024 elections.Chief minister Mohan Majhi expressed grief over the death of the veteran politician. “I am deeply saddened by the death of veteran leader Dhaneswar Majhi. His death is a huge loss for Odisha politics,” he wrote on X.
