You could smell it around the corner.

The delicious scent of burgers and brats sizzling over an open grill caught the hearts and stomachs of hungry Aspenites on Thursday as The Butcher’s Block hosted a locals’ appreciation party.

Complemented with homemade coleslaw, potato salad and a gooey chocolate chip cookie, the feast was given to folks who did not need to reach for their cash or credit cards.

“Have you ever heard of anything free in Aspen?” Butcher’s Block operator Marty Voller joked.

The Butcher’s Block, a local staple deli and meat market, served the brats made special from a recipe Voller inherited through his grandmother.
