Govt launches ‘Ghar Ghar Constitution’ to mark 75th year of Constitution
Nagpur: To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Indian Constitution, the state govt has announced ‘Ghar Ghar Constitution' programme under the Constitution Amrit Mahotsav for 2024-25. The initiative, launched by the Department of Social Justice and Special Assistance, aims to spread awareness about the Constitution's values, fundamental rights, and duties among students, citizens, and marginalised communities across the state.

The Constitution of India, adopted on Nov 26, 1949, and implemented on Jan 26, 1950, is the foundation of India's democratic republic. It guarantees citizens social, economic, and political justice, as well as fundamental freedoms, equality, and unity in diversity. To celebrate the milestone, the govt has outlined a series of activities targeting schools, colleges, hostels, and public institutions throughout Maharashtra.
The objective of ‘Ghar Ghar Constitution' is to educate school and college students, as well as the broader public, about the importance of the Constitution. The initiative aims to foster a deeper understanding of the Constitution's principles, such as secularism, socialism, democracy, and national unity. It will also emphasise the rights and duties of citizens, encouraging active participation in civic life and promoting social justice and equality.
As per the govt decision, all primary and secondary schools, vocational and non-vocational colleges, govt hostels, and educational complexes will participate in the year-long celebration. Activities will include daily recitations of the Constitution's Preamble, lectures on key constitutional provisions, workshops on constitutional philosophy, and the display of constitutional texts in school libraries. In addition, cultural programs based on constitutional values, such as essay writing, debates, and plays, will be organised to engage students and instil in them the importance of national integration.
The initiative extends to rural and urban self-government bodies too, where meetings such as gram sabhas will begin with the reading of the Preamble. The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council will also adopt this practice for their sessions.
The ‘Ghar Ghar Constitution' initiative is set to begin on Nov 26 coinciding with Constitution Day, and will continue through Republic Day and beyond. The govt hopes the program will strengthen the understanding of the Constitution among future generations and reinforce the values of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity across Maharashtra.
