Silchar: Cachar Police is set to deploy an anti-Romeo squad in greater parts of
Silchar. After a successful initiation last year, SP (Cachar) Numal Mahatta flagged off the squad on Wednesday.
With last minute instructions from the SP, the squad, comprising of an equal number of male and female officers, took to the streets in Silchar.
Talking to media, the SP said, “Silchar has a history of its own.
Devotees come here to celebrate Durgotsav every year. The entire city turns into a sea of people.” He further said, “Women and children have to face various difficulties in overcrowded areas. Also, in some places youths roam around in bikes and engage in indecent behaviour with girls and young women. Having reviewed this issues, Cachar Police has decided to form a special squad called anti-Romeo squad.”
