Chandigarh: There were 25,588 people left in the fray for election to sarpanch posts in Punjab and 80,598 for panch posts after the withdrawal of nominations ended on Wednesday, according to govt data. So far, 3,798 sarpanches and 48,861 panches have been elected unopposed. In all, 20,147 people have withdrawn their nomination from election to sarpanch posts and 31,381 from panch posts.
A total of 13,229 gram panchayats are going to polls on Oct 15. Polling will be conducted between 8am and 4pm. tnn
