Panaji: The tourism department has commenced the process to renew licences for private beach shacks and beach cottages adjacent to Goa’s beaches. Depending on the size of the shack, the registration fees range from Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000 for the current tourism season.
For huts, tents, and beach-side cottages, the fees range from Rs 5,000 to Rs 75,000 if there are more than 50 huts on the property.
The move to renew licences of private shack operators and beach-side cottages on private land for the 2024-25 tourist season comes just weeks after the department completed the renewal process for beach shacks. Applicants must pay a security deposit of Rs 25,000 for new registrations along with GST and processing fees.
Tourism director Suneel Anchipaka said that the window to renew permissions will remain open till April 30. “This notice marks the beginning of the application process, and as of today, we have received one application for the renewal of an existing shack and two new applications for registration,” Anchipaka said.
Private shacks with up to 150sqm of area will have to pay Rs 34,500, including GST and processing fees. For larger private shacks, applicants will have to pay Rs 79,000 inclusive of all the fees. For the year 2023-24, the department received 88 applications for renewals and 20 new registrations for private shacks from both South and North Goa.
The renewal of licences for private beach shacks and the issuance of permissions for beach huts will require ownership proof, an affidavit on the registration of the temporary structures in the private property, and an NOC from the department issued for the previous year. The department will process the renewal after the demarcation report is obtained.
