Bengaluru: Lokayukta raided RTO check-posts in several districts across the state on Tuesday and seized a few lakhs of rupees. According to the Lokayukta, the raids took place following complaints from the public over the last few months about corruption.
The simultaneous raids were carried out on checkposts in Attibele, Srinivaspura and Nangli in Kolar, Jhalaki in Vijayapura district, Hagari in Ballari district, Bagepalli in Chikkaballapur, Gundlupet in Chamarajnagar, Humnabad in Kalaburagi, and Nippani in Belagavi.
At the Jhalaki check-post, the Lokayukta joint team of judiciary and police seized Rs 2 lakh. Abourt Rs 45,000 was seized at Hagari in Ballari, Rs 45,000 from Attibele, Rs 42,000 from Humnabad, and Rs 13,500 from Nippani check-posts.
The check-post staff extorted money from motorists using home guards and private persons. During the raid at the Hagari check-post, the staff threw money outside a window, and the same was seized by Lokayukta. Verification of documents and unaccounted money seized was in progress.
